POOLE RESIN BOUND DRIVEWAYS

Poole sits on the Poole Formation, deep beds of free draining heathland sand and ball clay wrapped around Poole Harbour, one of the largest natural harbours in the world. From Poole Quay out to Sandbanks and across to Brownsea Island, the ground drains well but the sea is never far away, and salt air does more damage to a driveway here than water ever will.

What we look for on a Poole driveway

• Loose sandy subsoil. The Poole sands carry very little load on their own. Without a properly compacted and stabilised sub-base a surface will settle in ruts along the wheel lines, so we dig deeper here than we would inland.
• Salt and wind exposure. Frontages towards the harbour, Lilliput and Canford Cliffs take constant salt spray. We specify UV stable resin so the surface does not yellow or chalk under coastal sun and airborne salt.
• Mature Scots pines. The pines that give Poole its character lift block paving and crack concrete as their roots spread. A flexible bonded surface moves with that instead of fracturing.
• Sloping harbour side plots. Driveways falling towards the water need controlled drainage. Resin bound takes the rainfall straight through the surface rather than sending it down onto the road or into a neighbour.
