Our approved contractors install every resin bound surface to the highest professional standard. While resin bound driveways are known for their low-maintenance performance, a small amount of regular care will keep your surface looking immaculate and functioning at its best for many years. The guidance below outlines simple, effective steps you can follow at home to preserve the quality, strength and appearance of your driveway.
The polyurethanes used in resin bound systems are extremely durable, but their chemical resistance develops gradually after installation. To protect the surface during this early period, avoid exposing it to chemicals and ensure nothing rests on the resin that could leave imprints before the material has fully cured.
Day-to-day cleaning is simple and requires minimal effort. Loose debris such as leaves, soil, and sand can be removed with a stiff brush, while routine rinsing with clean water will maintain the surface appearance. If staining occurs, most marks can be removed with a pressure washer set to a maximum of 150 bar, using a fan lance at least 200mm above the resin. Only cold water should be used. Chewing gum can be detached easily with a freeze spray and gentle scraping.
Resin bound surfaces naturally resist weed growth and are treated prior to installation, but seeds carried by the wind or animals may still settle. Occasional weeds can be pulled out by hand, ensuring the full root is removed. Deep-rooted weeds may be treated with a mild weed killer, but strong chemicals must always be heavily diluted to avoid discolouring the surface.
Spillages should be cleaned promptly to prevent staining. Mild detergents such as washing-up liquid or car shampoo can be applied with warm water to lift engine fluid. For more persistent oil or fuel marks, apply the detergent with a stiff brush, allow it to break down the residue for several minutes, and then rinse using a fan-assisted pressure washer.
To prevent tyre marks, avoid turning vehicle wheels while the vehicle is stationary. If marks do appear, they can be reduced or removed with suitable cleaning products such as Gorilla Wipes, which are effective at lifting rubber without damaging the resin surface.
Resin bound paving is less prone to ice build-up due to its permeable structure, but precautions should still be taken in cold weather. White rock salt may be used safely to treat frost or ice. Once conditions improve, rinse the surface to remove any salt residue, helping maintain the long-term visual finish.
Resin bound paving is suitable for pedestrian areas and light vehicle traffic. When installed at a depth of at least 20mm, it can support vehicles up to 7.5 tonnes. Heavy goods vehicles should not drive or park on the surface unless additional depth was specifically designed for this purpose. Avoid dragging skips or machinery across the paving, and use wooden boards to spread weight when placing heavy objects.
Brake fluid is highly corrosive and can cause immediate damage to resin bound surfaces. If any brake fluid comes into contact with the paving, wash it away straight away using warm water to prevent long-term surface degradation.
