Resin Bound Driveways in New Forest

The New Forest is not one ground condition, it is several. Around Lyndhurst and Brockenhurst you are on Headon Formation sand over clay. Towards Lymington and the Solent shore it becomes estuarine silt and salt-laden air. Up on the northern heaths near Fordingbridge the gravel drains almost too well. Add National Park planning, commoners livestock with the right to roam, and protected ancient trees, and this is one of the more demanding areas in the south for driveway work.

What we look for on a New Forest driveway

• Roaming livestock. Ponies, cattle and donkeys cross unfenced drives across the whole Forest. Resin bound cures seamless, so there are no loose stones to kick out and no jointed blocks to lift.
• National Park planning constraints. Colour, aggregate and edge detail all matter more inside the Park boundary. We keep to natural gravels that read correctly against brick, thatch and render.
• Ancient and protected trees. Root protection areas are taken seriously here and rightly so. We hand-dig near mature trees and design the build-up around the roots rather than through them.
• Genuinely variable ground. Free-draining heath gravel and heavy Barton Clay can be four miles apart. We dig trial holes on every site so the sub-base is specified for your plot, not for the Forest in general.
